The shelf logos concept In the custom logo design process, many designs are created that are not accepted by the logo design client. These are not bad designs - they just were not what the client had in mind. Too loud. Not loud enough. Too simple. Not simple enough. Each one of these logos could be perfect for another business, but they usually end up in the recycle bin. ShelfLogos.com takes these original, professionally designed logos and puts them up for sale. The logos are each sold only once. When you place your order, one of our in-house designers will work with you to fine-tune your logo until perfect. Your logo will be marked as "Sold" on the site - or removed completely if you prefer. Once you accept the final version, it is delivered to you in all the formats you would need for use in professional printing, desktop printing, web, embriodery etc. All that for $90. You could pay thousands at a traditional design house and receive the exact same product. How we work We work on the assumption that the business owner knows best. He or she is the right person for the job when it comes to picking a logo that will work for their target audience. Many traditional design houses follow a more prescriptive approach. That's fine too. We prefer giving the business owner 100s of logos to choose from and unlimited alterations to the chosen logo. ShelfLogos.com does not make use freelance designers. We have nothing against freelance designers, but we find that monitoring the originality of the designs created by freelance designers is virtually impossible. We want to be absolutely sure that the designs we sell on this web site are unique and original. All the designs on ShelfLogos.com are in-house designs. When you purchase a logo from ShelfLogos.com, one of our in-house designers will work with you to make changes to the logo as needed. We only finalize the design when you sign off on it. Is a shelf logo right for your business? There is no "yes" or "no" answer to this one. The real question is: Is the right logo for your business on this site or does it still have to be designed? If your perfect logo is already here, you will save a bucket load of time and money. If not, a custom logo is as good, if a little more expensive. Designers buying from ShelfLogos We sell many logos to graphic designers who then sell those designs to their clients. Your secret is safe with us. When you fill out the order form, please mention that you want the logo removed completely (rather than just marked as "Sold"). There are no limitations on what you can do with logos purchased from ShelfLogos. If you can sell them at a higher price, good for you. If you intend placing a large order or if you buy from ShelfLogos on a regular basis, please get in touch. We would be happy to discuss a volume discount with you. When original is not unique enough It happens. A ShelfLogos in-house designer comes up with a logo - let's say it is a lighthouse in a circle - and somewhere someone made a very similar lighthouse in a circle. It also happens that rip-offs of our work pop up on the Net. If a logo is disputed, ShelfLogos.com will look at the age of the two logos. If the ShelfLogos.com logo is the younger of the two, it will be removed from the site. If you buy a logo from us and only later realize that a similar, older logo exists, we will work with you to make the necessary changes to your logo, free of charge. The only condition is that we must agree that your logo is too similar to the pre-existing logo. "Too similar" is hard to define. We use the same criteria as the USPTO: If one logo can be confused for the other, it's too similar. Shelf Logos, Pre-Made Logos, Pre-Designed Logos These all describe the same thing: Logos that are either spin-off designs from custom logo projects or specifically created as shelf logos. The Shelf Logo industry has been getting a bad rap lately through the actions of a couple of logo vendors who sell rip-offs of pre-existing logos. Some do it knowingly and others innocently buy logos from freelancers who claim pre-existing logos as their own work. ShelfLogos.com decided to side-step this entire issue by not making use of freelance designers at all. We keep it in-house where we can hold designers accountable for the work they produce. Be careful when shopping around for logos. Before you buy, type the company's name into Google and see what people say about them. If a logo company sells rip-offs, there's a good chance that a blogger somewhere wrote about it! Bloggers 1, Bad Guys 0.
