ShelfLogos.com was established in 2007 as an outlet for "surplus" logos, created by professional designers in their normal production of concept designs for clients. These designs are not inferior to the final logo created for the client. In most cases they are, from a design point of view, on par with the final logo, but they do not quite have the style, message or character that the client wanted. Often it is simply a matter of personal taste. Traditionally these logos would either end up in the recycle bin, or they would be stored and re-used by the designer in future projects.

Having any of the logos displayed on ShelfLogos.com created by a professional designer would normally cost anywhere from three hundred to several thousand dollars. We are able to sell them for a lot less though. Our thinking is that, if the client selects a logo even before the design process starts, that saves us a lot of time. Rather than using our free time to improve our golf game, we are reducing the price of our logos so that the income we generate for every hour of work is still roughly the same as before. Only the process has changed.
